Escape Velocity: Hands-On Astronomy, Physics and Space Technology Curriculum | Grades 8–12

$40.00

Turn astronomy and physics into an unforgettable, hands-on adventure with Escape Velocity: Astronomy and Space Technology. This complete 18-week curriculum invites students to explore the science of space by designing, building, testing, observing, and solving real-world engineering challenges.

Created for students ages 13–18 in grades 8–12, Escape Velocity combines astronomy, physics, engineering, mathematics, technology, and scientific inquiry into one engaging semester course. Instead of simply reading about rockets, telescopes, satellites, and planetary exploration, students work directly with the principles that make them possible.

Throughout the course, students will build and fly rockets, construct two working telescopes, photograph the Moon, track satellites, investigate orbital motion, explore electromagnetic radiation, and design a functional Mars habitat. Every lesson connects scientific concepts to a meaningful project, experiment, investigation, or engineering challenge.

This resource includes both the Facilitator Guide and Student Workbook, providing everything needed to guide students through an academically rich space science experience. Lessons are designed for homeschool families, co-ops, micro-academies, classrooms, enrichment programs, and independent learners.

Students will explore:

• Newton’s laws of motion
• Gravity, mass, weight, and acceleration
• Rocket design, propulsion, and stability
• Escape velocity and orbital mechanics
• Telescope construction and optics
• Light and the electromagnetic spectrum
• Lunar observation and photography
• Satellite identification and tracking
• Planetary science and space environments
• Engineering design and problem-solving
• Human survival and habitat design on Mars
• Scientific research, data collection, and analysis

Each project encourages students to think like scientists and engineers. They will make predictions, test ideas, troubleshoot designs, analyze results, document observations, and improve their work through experimentation.

Course Details
