PROVE IT! The Scientific Method, Statistics, and the Art of Trustworthy Evidence Ages 13–18 | 15 Days | Three-Week Independent Research Course

$20.00

PROVE IT! is a hands-on research course that teaches students how to move beyond simply having an opinion to asking a question, gathering evidence, analyzing results, and determining what the evidence actually supports.

Over 15 days, students work through the complete scientific research process by designing and conducting their own experiment. Along the way, they learn how scientists develop testable questions, identify variables, form hypotheses, collect reliable data, use statistics to make sense of results, recognize limitations and sources of error, and communicate their findings clearly.

Rather than treating the scientific method and statistics as separate textbook topics, PROVE IT! brings them together in one authentic research experience. Students learn statistics because they have real data that needs to be understood. They learn experimental design because the quality of their conclusions depends on the quality of their investigation.

Students are challenged to think carefully about a bigger question as well: What makes evidence trustworthy?

Students Will Learn To:

  • Develop a focused, testable research question

  • Form a hypothesis and make measurable predictions

  • Identify independent, dependent, and controlled variables

  • Design a fair and repeatable experiment

  • Collect and organize quantitative data

  • Create useful tables, graphs, and visual representations of results

  • Apply introductory statistics to real experimental data

  • Look for patterns, trends, variation, and unexpected results

  • Distinguish between observations, interpretations, and conclusions

  • Identify possible errors, limitations, bias, and confounding variables

  • Determine whether evidence supports or fails to support a hypothesis

  • Avoid overstating what their results actually prove

  • Write a scientific research report

  • Communicate findings using evidence rather than assumption

Why Educators Will Love PROVE IT!

PROVE IT! gives educators a structured way to teach several important skills through one cohesive project. Scientific inquiry, mathematics, statistics, research, critical thinking, data literacy, and academic writing all come together naturally as students complete their investigation.

The 15-day format makes the course especially useful for homeschool educators, co-ops, micro-schools, enrichment programs, science classes, independent-study students, and interdisciplinary STEM programs. It can be used as a stand-alone three-week course or incorporated into a larger biology, chemistry, environmental science, psychology, mathematics, or research unit.

Because students conduct their own investigation, educators do not have to manufacture relevance for them. Each learner has a reason to understand variables, accurate measurement, sample size, data organization, statistics, and scientific writing because those tools are necessary to answer the question they chose to investigate.

The independent-research structure also gives educators an opportunity to move from lecturer to facilitator. Instead of providing every answer, the educator can guide students through questioning, experimental design, troubleshooting, analysis, and reflection while allowing students to take ownership of the research process.

More Than a Science Course

We live in a world filled with graphs, statistics, studies, headlines, surveys, product claims, social-media posts, and statements that begin with “research shows.” Students need more than the ability to memorize the steps of the scientific method. They need to understand what those steps are designed to accomplish.

PROVE IT! helps students develop the habit of asking:

How do we know?

What was actually measured?

Is this a fair comparison?

What does the data show?

Could something else explain the result?

Does the evidence really support that conclusion?

Those questions matter far beyond the science classroom. They help young people become more thoughtful researchers, consumers of information, problem-solvers, and decision-makers.

Students do not just learn the scientific method in PROVE IT! They use it.

Design an experiment. Run it. Count it. Write it up like a scientist.
